What are the Marlborough Republicans all about?

To put it simply, we are committed to fiscal responsibility. These tough economic times have forced our taxpayers to “tighten their belts” and your elected officials need to do the same. During the last several budget seasons, we listened and responded by scrutinizing the budget. We trimmed waste and made sure that you got the most for your tax dollar. But we are far from done! We continue to face very tough economic times and we will need to continue to make the most of every penny. Marlborough Republicans will strive to maintain needed services while reducing costs. This is a tough balancing act but it can be done. With these goals in mind we have made the following pledges and have dedicated ourselves to these purposes.

Taxes:

• Provide the taxpayers with realistic budget projections based on current commitments.
• Realize that we can’t “loosen our belts” if times get better.
• As bonding costs decline in future years we pledge to lower taxes rather than increase spending.
• Support an initiative to improve the budget process and communication among Boards of Selectmen, Education and Finance.

Bonding:

• Limit any new bonding to critical needs.
• Acknowledge the high level of existing debt and budget accordingly.
• Fund future capital purchases from current revenues.

Education:

• Balance quality education with fiscal responsibility.
• Capitalize on the experience of the new Superintendent to efficiently meet the needs of our students.
• Develop cost saving scenarios for taxpayer consideration.

Seniors:

• Support necessary Senior programs.

Town Operations:

• Evaluate the economics of police protection.
• Encourage the pursuit of State and Federal grants
• Work closely with our State representatives to minimize further reductions in State funding.

Business Park:

• Emphasize Business Park marketing efforts while minimizing additional expenditures.
• Promote current business opportunities to increase revenues.

Library:

• Support necessary library services.
